In work - please scroll down!

We come each summer - since we bought our property - to Canada to prepare everything to move. We made laneways, cleaned out the bush, did some landscaping & fencing and tried to get informations about important thinks like regulations.

Here is what we did each year 2002 / 2003 / 2004 and each year there will be new pictures!

2002
This was the first summer on our property. Finally we got the money together to start our dream.

First stop in this year was the Airshow in Oskosh. We drove down the whole way from our place. Sure, it was more interesting for Stefan than for me, but we saw many interesting things like the stonemen on the right side.
We already had bought a trailer and a truck and now that we own the place we start to make a place where we would like to park the trailer. We also bought a generator to have hydro in the trailer, bought a hamdock and a TV to get some comfort. And we walk very much around on our property - we saw lot of wild life!

We start to build a laneway down to the place where we plan to build the cottages. It's a very long laneway because we try to surround the bigger trees that we don't have to cut too much. This project take most of the time this summer.

2003
This year we received the first visitors from Austria. Friends of mine came with us to Canada and stayed for 14 days. We had lot of fun and went together to Quebec, Ottawa and some tourist attractions in our area. When they left we start our work on the property. This was also the summer when Babsi and I where involved in the vulture project in Austria.

And these are the three girls: Tammi, Nicky& Babsi:

They arrived one day before us and stay overnight by my relatives Nora & Kurt in Montreal - Thank you for your hospitality!
First we were in Quebec! I have to say, that I don't like sightseeing in cities very much but Quebec was it worth! The waterfalls are about one hour outside of quebec.

Then we went to our property and drove from here to the different places we planned to visit. On the right side you see me - installing the water pump.

We visited the Bonnechere Caves in Eagenville and the Blueberry-Ranch on the way to Pembroke.
Before they left we went to Ottawa together.

And then the work on the property started!

First we installed our mailbox and made a nice gate. We also put in a culvert by the entrance.
It took a long time to think about how we want arrange our gate. We decided that we want a normal farmgate. But in addition we tried to make it not decay rather rurally.

before
We really have a nice laneway now. It goes across the meadow and the bush down to the place where the trailer stands and behind further over the small creek to our rear lot. We only had troubles at one wet spot - but it works fine with two-inch-minus-grawel. Next year we need to put in a culvert where the creek cross the street - that we can go to the rear lot by car too. In two years at least we will put gravel on the whole laneway.

The posts for the fence were a challange! Usually the properties in Austria are not that big. We have nearly 400 acres now and need to enclose a big part for the horses. This year we just set the posts on the border to our neighbours. 280 posts.

We pulled out very much of this barb wire - and there is much more in the bush which should be out next year. We also build a small shed - just for our garden equipment.
2004
This year was wonderful again. We had lot of rain which made it a little bit harder to work outside, but we had lot of sunny days too. We were very sad that we had to leave again and wish we could already stay there.
When Stefan arrived this year the grass was very high. So the first thing was to get a mower and cut the grass along the laneway and around the trailer. It was nice when I came, because everything like installing the water pump and fix up the trailer were already done by Stefan.
To do the work we planned, it was necessary to buy some equipment like an ATV with a small trailer and a mower.
We planned to build a hangar on the Arnprior airport property, but the delivery was on August the 16th so Stefan and I work on the property in Burnstown. We clean out the bush which Stefan already had began. I arrived on 27th of July. As you can see on the right picture - there was a lot to clean out!
We cut some trees with stand in our lakeview and looked not very nice anyway. We are very careful in deciding which trees we should cut. Of course we have enough trees on our property, but we won't cut any tree without purpose. We love them and when a tree is cut you can't bring it back so soon.
I sanded the piece of wood we found last year and varnish the back. We find an artist in our little town who will paint our sign for our gate.

We found the house we would like to build next year. It is a modular home with lots of windows. The company is Seahawk Homes and you can visit their website under www.seahawkhomes.com of course we will have some changes as the colors and some walls. We hope that we can build next year but is always a thing of money.

We decided to level down the entrance to the lake a little bit. We rent an excavator which you see in the next photo. Again the ATV and it's trailer were very useful to bring away the earth we dig out.
Everybody who knows Stefan will see that this was not only work which has to be done but fun too!
This is the result - well of course it does not look that nice on this photo but we use a rake to level it a little bit and when it is overgrown with grass next year we will enjoy the nice entrance to the lake. I made some steps down to the "beach" and hope they are still there after the winter :)

Finally on August the 16th the hangar arrived in Arnprior! We met a very friendly truck driver who helped us a lot by unloading the truck. When we asked what he wants for his work or if we can invite him for lunch he questioned if we have a big company otherwise he wont take money from us. The only thing we could get him to take from us are pictures from his truck which we took with the digital camera. Thank you so much for help and we hope you got your pictures!

Finally we found somebody to dig out the holes for the columns. And then the cement were filled in.

We also set again some posts and installed insulators for the horsefence.
Then we leaving for our home in Austria. But Stefan came back 1 month later and in this time the hangar in Armprior were build.
